Seg 23 - “Yukonnaise”

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Smells Like Yukon’s final segment of 2008 aired as scheduled on the morning of Christmas Eve. While the piece alluded to the planned delivery of a great big jar of Yukonnaise to the Association Franco-Yukonnaise just in time for Christmas dinner, we’re sad to say that we failed to make delivery.

Not wanting to risk our precious cargo with the speed demon drivers of a certain A-1 delivery service that shall remain nameless, we opted to go with that other Christmas delivery specialist. Sadly, a few of his reindeer refused to carry the sauce out of some sort of solidarity with one its primary ingredients. The rest of them balked because there were a few minor problems with the Dangerous Goods paperwork. By then, it was too late to find any other feasible way to transport the jar from Riverdale to Yukon Francophone HQ on Strickland Street. Yukon Francophones will just have to trust us when we say Yukonnaise is… like nothing you’ve ever tasted.

At any rate, the remaining Yukonnaise is now tucked away in Mark’s freezer, awaiting a special occasion. As for the segment, it has now been posted in the Smells Like Yukon Audio Archive for the enjoyment of our Members Club.

Finally, we’d once again like to apologize to all our readers for the Sarah MacLachlan albums that continue to appear in the Amazon.com banner ads throughout the site. We are working with Amazon to resolve the issue.

Next segment airs tomorrow - Wed, Dec 24

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

When they make a Christmas shopping list for Smells Like Yukon, Mark and Jesse must ask themselves: “What do you get the Yukon Francophone community that has everything?” The answer eventually leads to Mark’s kitchen–and the final Smells Like Yukon segment of 2008.

The new piece is scheduled to air on CBC North tomorrow morning, Wednesday, December 24, at around 7:15 a.m., as part of A New Day’s Christmas Eve Day show. If necessary, you can listen to CBC North online by clicking the link on Smells Like Yukon’s homepage.

The previous segment, “Who’s Hot & Who’s Not,” has now been posted to the audio archives for the listening pleasure of our Members Club.

The fourth installment of Smells Like Yukon’s third season aired this morning on CBC North. Our official website has now been updated with the usual plot summary and behind-the-sounds commentary, including numerous outtakes, one of which is rather unflattering to Mark. The segment will be available in the audio archive next Tuesday.

There has also been a schedule change for the next segment. Briefly slated for broadcast on December 23, the segment has now been moved to A New Day’s Christmas eve (morning) show on December 24. We assume it will air at the usual time–around 7:15 a.m. If this changes again, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

Next segment airs tomorrow - Wed, Dec 17

We know, it’s been a long absence. But we’re pleased to announce that a new segment of Smells Like Yukon is scheduled to air on CBC North tomorrow morning, Wednesday, December 17, at around 7:15 a.m. It’s a story full of long underwear, frozen extremities and betrayal… Telling you more would require too much work.

Even better, Smells Like Yukon will be back with another segment on December 23. And, yes, it WILL have a Christmas theme. But we do warn you: It may leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

Should the need arise, you can listen to CBC North online by clicking the link on Smells Like Yukon’s homepage.

The previous segment, “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bagnell,” has now been posted to the audio archives for the listening pleasure of our “ultra-exclusive” (in the sense that only a few people have been crazy enough to join) Members Club.

The third installment of Smells Like Yukon’s third season aired this morning on CBC North. Our official website has now been updated with the usual plot summary and behind-the-sounds commentary, including one outtake from the lengthy interview Mark did with Yukon MP Larry Bagnell in early August. It has also been updated with the unusual Larry Bagnell Baby Pool.

If you have something to say about this segment, here’s the place to do it. If you feel that you have been unjustly excluded from Larry’s Man Shower, please contact our Complaints Department… or Shayne Fairman.

Next segment airs tomorrow - Thurs, Oct 16

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

It’s the day after the federal election, and Smells Like Yukon is tickled pink–even red–that Yukon MP Larry Bagnell has been returned to office. We could add “for obvious reasons,” but at least one of the biggest reasons probably isn’t all that obvious.

Had Larry not won re-election, then all of the hard work that Smells Like Yukon put into a story called “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bagnell” would have gone to waste. After all, a story about Yukon’s 58-year-old Member of Parliament becoming a father is worth putting on the air. A story about some 58-year-old unemployed guy becoming a father? Not so much, perhaps.

For those inclined to listen, the piece is scheduled (last we heard) for broadcast tomorrow morning on CBC North at around 7:15 a.m. If it’s not on tomorrow for some reason, then your best bet is to tune in at the same time on Friday morning. Should the need arise, you can listen to CBC North online by clicking the link on Smells Like Yukon’s homepage.

The previous segment, “House Hunting,” has now been posted to the audio archives for the online listening pleasure of the Smells Like Yukon Members Club.

The second segment of Smells Like Yukon’s Blockbuster Third Season aired this morning on CBC Yukon. Our website has now been updated with a plot summary, music details and behind-the-sounds commentary, including audio outtakes and the script.

If you have something to say about “House Hunting,” here’s the place to do it. If you own a house that you think would make an ideal Premier’s Mansion–and you’re willing to sell– please contact the Department of Finance or Yukon Housing directly. Smells Like Yukon is no longer in the real estate business

Next segment airs tomorrow!

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Note the exclamation point, as opposed to yesterday’s question mark.

As anticipated, the second segment of Smells Like Yukon’s Blockbuster Third Season was bumped from its scheduled time slot this morning. Something to do with Dawson City, fish, and a high speed catamaran. Now, we’ve just received word from CBC that the piece will air tomorrow morning (Thursday, October 2) at about 7:15 a.m.

Next segment airs tomorrow?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The next segment of Smells Like Yukon has been delivered to CBC for its scheduled broadcast at around 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1. Last time we checked, that was tomorrow.

Whether or not the new segment airs as scheduled is another question. CBC has warned us that the segment could be pre-empted by a story that’s actually important, as opposed to “important.”

Of course, we strongly recommend that you still tune in at the scheduled time. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear the new Smells Like Yukon piece, in which “reporters” Jesse Devost and Mark Koepke attempt to solve a Yukon housing crisis–but probably not the housing crisis you’re thinking of. On the other hand, if the segment is bumped, you might hear a story that actually matters. Hopefully, CBC will also provide some hint of a new date and time for the pre-empted SLY segment.

The previous segment, “Seducing Dr. Michal,” has now been posted to the audio archives for the listening pleasure of Smells Like Yukon Members Club members.

Seg 19 - “Seducing Doctor Michal”

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

The first segment of Smells Like Yukon’s third season aired this morning on CBC Yukon. Our website has now been updated with a plot summary, music details and behind-the-sounds commentary, including six audio outtakes and the script.

If you have something to say about “Seducing Doctor Michal,” here’s the place to do it. If you’re interested in actually seducing Dr. Michal, forget it–he’s taken.
